Dinner at Francesca's

Hello everyone,

Well we have not done any travelling so far this summer and due to work schedules and other happenings we won't go to far, but all the more reason to discover new places in our own back yard, so to speak. We did that one night early in June when we went to Francesca's Cucina, http://www.francescas-cucina.com/?p=home, to celebrate our 9th Anniversary.

You enter the restaurant through the bar area which seems a little dark, and even though that is your first impression it will not be the impression you are left with. Reservations are highly recommended, even on a Tuesday night it did get busy. We sat in the courtyard, which was like visiting an Italian villa. It was a lovely night and the weather was perfect for dining al fresco. Nick, our waiter, who we highly recommend, and I repeat highly recommend, was attentive but not overly attentive and saw to our every need without being intrusive. The food was delicious and fresh. We are already planning a return visit soon.

Eating at Francesca's was relaxing and enjoyable like visiting a friend and being able to linger and appreciate the time spent with good company.

Travel Tip of the Month

With gas prices climbing you don't have to stop travelling, just make your travel cirlce smaller and look for things you have overlooked before.

1. Look for interesting or historical towns within a short drive.

2. Look for festivals and annual events in your area that you have never been too, but always say "we should go to that sometime."

3. Go to a local hotel that may have a weekend deal, look for one with a pool, restaurant, or special offer.

4. Plan a "getaway from home" stay at home. Plan a weekend of no housework, no television, no dealing with the normal stuff and plan to go to the local zoo, have a special date night, visit the local casino, take a walk in the park or just sit on the patio and relax with a good book.

Suggestion

Of late, as we travel many hotels have started charging an extra fee to guests who use a debit card. We have encountered a fee from $20 or more, and this can be for each night of your stay or a one time for the length of your stay. If this information is not on the hotel website, I suggest making the call to the hotel to confirm. Also, if using a debit card, hotels will put a hold on the total amount of the stay, including any extra fees at the time of check in, so plan for this in your budgeting.

If possible have a credit card to use just for hotels. My husband and I don't generally use credit cards, we just don't believe they are beneficial to us, but we have one with a low line of credit that we use just for hotels. We pay it off within a month of the stay to avoid alot of interest charges. We have found this has really saved alot of hassle and frustration on our trips.
